Local Custom Screen Printer is Printing for a Point.

Duckworth Factory Creates Contest to Raise Global Warming Awareness
and Benefit VPIRG.

MORRISVILLE, VT, April 3, 2007 – It’s mid-December in northern Vermont and the thermometer outside belies the date. Craig Duckworth, owner of Morrisville’s Duckworth Factory, a custom screen printer of apparel and promotional materials, is not sure the unusual weather outside his window is due to global warming, but he does know that he can help deliver the global warming message in a very concrete way. Thus, a contest was born.

Duckworth approached Barbara Flack of Green Mountain Technology and Career Center. Together they would challenge each student in the Multimedia and Design Program to design a thought-provoking design that would work well on a t-shirt. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go to the winning designers with a matching amount to be donated to the students’ non-profit of choice, VPIRG.

“I know that global warming is a particular hot button these days, but I wasn’t just looking to jump on the bandwagon,” comments Duckworth. “I just thought that every little bit helps. By motivating local kids to think globally, and then have them see how they can make an impact, even if small, made me pursue the contest. And, I’m pleased that the students chose to donate the proceeds to VPIRG. It is a great organization with an important environmental mission.

Three top designs were chosen among 15 of entries. A 5-member panel judged the designs based on originality, creativeness, printability and market potential. The winning design, “Checkmate?,” was done by 17-year-old Dainah Wereley, featuring a chess board with planets vying for position.

“It was really fun to take part in something like this,” shared the winner. “I have an interest in the printing and design field and enjoyed seeing my design take shape on a shirt.”

Second place was awarded to Will Johnson and third to Brittany Lamb.

The shirts were printed at Duckworth Factory in early February with the students’ assistance, and are being sold online at www.OneDegreeMatters.com, and at stores throughout the state. A complete list of stores will be made available online. Winners will receive a percentage of the proceeds from the sales, and Duckworth will match the winning amount and donate it to VPIRG.
